Today we moved 4 tons of books. These books were in the original centre here in Gulu but the centre was closed due to conflicts with the Diocese. After several cups of tea with the Reverand Charles and then with Reverand Rita, we finally signed a letter of understanding that allowed us to take the books from the property. One room was well kept and ready to empty but the other had become damp and had experienced a few rat visitors.
We cleared out the first room and took two shipments of books to Pastor George where little children carried boxes of books that were heavier than them. While the second load was being delivered, Andrew, Marina, Bree and I cleared out the second room. About one third of the books were ruined but we made two piles for delivery to Obiya West Primary and St Patrick’s Secondary. Both were so happy to receive the books and they helped unload but the little children this morning put them to shame as to how much they could carry!
The shower back at the hotel was amazing. We are now at The Coffee Hut with Internet and getting ready for a big meal. There is a storm brewing that will cool everything down but the weather here hasn’t been too too bad!
Tomorrow we are going to the vocational school to collect more books (about 3 van loads) to deliver to secondary schools and to do a presentation on Days for Girls for 45 young women about feminine health.
We will sleep well tonight!
