P.A.C.E.

Promote A Child’s Education

Children in Uganda face many educational challenges. From paying for school supplies to not having enough to eat, the barriers these children face make graduating from Secondary School a daunting task. 80% of children do not finish high school.

Niteo’s P.A.C.E. initiatives address some of the challenges these children face. When you donate to a specific initiative, your money goes directly toward this program. The money collected travels to Uganda with one of the board members to be invested directly into the initiative you have selected. There are no administrative costs involved in the P.A.C.E. initiatives so 100% of your donation goes to the children.

When you make your donation, please indicate which initiative you are supporting. You will receive a tax receipt for your donation (if your donation amount is over $20) and a certificate to show which initiative you have supported. If you are supporting an initiative as a gift for someone else, please indicate where you would like the certificate to be sent in the comment box on PayPal.

    $20.00 School Supplies

$20 will provide a backpack filled with school supplies for a year. Primary education is free but students must pay for their own supplies. Parents often cannot afford the supplies and so students stop attending school.

    $30.00 Mosquito Nets

Malaria is the number one killer of children in developing nations and is responsible for keeping children home from school due to the severity of the illness. $30 will buy 6 mosquito nets which can protect the children in 6 families for their entire primary school career.

    $50.00 Hygiene Kit

Many schools do not have adequate resources for girls who are menstruating. The latrines do not provide the girls with basic necessities to keep themselves clean and therefore these girls do not come to school for a few days each month. During this time, these girls fall behind and many do not return to school. A $50 hygiene kit will provide underwear and a year’s supply of sanitary napkins so that the girl can attend school all month.

    $100.00 Class-Set of Books

You probably have more books in your home than a school in Uganda has available to its students. Literacy initiatives are promoted in the country but access to books is very limited. $100 will provide a classroom with a set of picture books or novels for students to enjoy and for teachers to use to enhance their teaching of reading skills.

    $250.00 Secondary School Science Kit

In a Secondary School of 2000 students, only 10 – 15 students will enroll in advanced level Science classes. When asked, the students state that a lack of resources makes it difficult in lower level Science classes so they are not motivated to continue in the Sciences. $250 will equip a Secondary School Science Lab with microscopes, ammeters, voltmeters, resistors, and other basic materials to make Science education hands-on and not only theoretical.

    $500.00 Create a Garden

It is well known that child that is hungry cannot focus on learning. Simply providing food for a child is a short term solution as the food will eventually run out. By providing a plot of land to create a garden, the child can learn to grow his own food with his family either with a vegetable garden or with livestock. The child is fed and also learns valuable life skills for when he is an adult. Extra produce can be sold to supplement the family’s income. $500 will buy a plot of land, the tools, and the seeds for a family or a children’s society such as Elohim, one of Niteo’s partners.

Volunteer Application

Each year, we travel with a team to Uganda and area.

We arrive in Uganda as teachers, as nurses, as students and as interested citizens, but we always leave as members of the community.

We are always searching for people who have the spirit of giving and who want to share their knowledge and experience with like-minded peers in Uganda.

If you are interested in joining one of our groups, please download (as a sample) the Blank Team Application 2012 or the 2012 Youth Application the FAQ and the 2012 Trip Fact Sheet. Although these will change on a trip-to-trip basis, the information therein will give you a good grounding in what we do and what you can expect if you make the life-altering decision to travel to Uganda with Niteo.
